The Jeremy Lin “Era” with the G League Ignite team is over.
Head coach Brian Shaw said Thursday that Lin had left the team to pursue other opportunities, including with other G League clubs and overseas.
“Jeremy is no longer with us,” Shaw said when I asked about Lin’s status. “He decided that he wanted to try and explore some other options. He played those couple minutes last game [Tuesday] and then decided he was going to go elsewhere.”
Lin joined the Ignite team that also includes projected lottery picks Jonathan Kuminga and Jalen Green to test the waters.
Lin, 32, played in the G League during the 2010-11 season for the Reno Bighorns before signing with Golden State. He went on to play for several NBA teams, including the Knicks, for which he starred during the “Linsanity” period, the Rockets, Lakers, Hornets, Nets, Hawks and Raptors. He won an NBA title with the Raptors in 2019 before spending last season with the Beijing Ducks in China, averaging 22.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists while leading the Ducks to their first postseason since 2016.
Now he’s on the move again.
“It wasn’t going to be enough for what he needed to happen for him with the emphasis being on our young guys so I think he wanted to go somewhere where he could have the ball in his hands and really get the minutes and show what he can do in his quest to get back to the NBA,” Shaw said.
